Shari felt called to Guatemala during a mission trip while in college, so she moved down here in 2002. Jose and Shari met while both working at an orphanage near Guatemala City. Their passion for serving children in crisis really began at this point for both Jose and Shari. The Lord also used Jose’s time at the orphanage to draw him to Himself in a real and personal way. They moved to Chichicastenango in 2003. Jose worked with a local ministry in surrounding villages during that time and Shari was teaching missionary kids and teaching English. They were married in 2006. Shari is originally from a rural town in Missouri and Jose is originally from Guatemala City. However, Chichicastenango, a rural indigenous town in the mountains, has become home to both of them. Their first daughter, Rebekah LaVonne, was born to them on December 21, 2009. Some of the things that the Lord has showed them during these past years are about his amazing grace, his sovereign plan, the suffering he calls all of us to endure, and his goodness.
