What does God want from me, and where is He leading me?...
Pondered and weighed, those questions have been at the forefront of the relationship that developed between me and Heather, and have marked our lives separately. The answers to those questions became a starting point for our marriage in April of 2001, and the foundation for giving birth to twins (Aidan and Althea) in June of 2004.
It seems more difficult to answer those questions when intertwined with a family of 4. But by listening to God closely, examining His call with friends and like-minded Christians and by being open to the Spirit in each other’s lives, we have become convinced that we are being called to Guatemala…the third major decision on our combined journey.
Heather has the background and training in education, and I have a Biblical Studies degree from Cincinnati Bible College. So in many ways, being called to Guatemala makes sense. While at times we have been secure in knowing that we are in His will, there have also been those times that we have struggled with fear knowing our own deficiencies and feeling unworthy of a life-change that would take us so far away and provide us with roles infused with so much meaning.
We are resting in the knowledge that He is able…not us. That He can do a good work…and not us. And that those around us will provide us with as much grace and patience as we hope to experience when we finally meet our Savior. Three things we promise: Light-Heartedness, Authenticity and Great Effort. The rest will have to be up to God.
Don will be the Director of Pastoral Ministries, and will be serving as the Pastor to the Missionary Church as well as to incoming short-term teams, and overseeing the general pastoral ministry on-site for Missions Frontier.
Heather will be the Administrator of Education and her specific responsibilities will include teacher-training, standards achievement and record-keeping, as well as acting as a liaison for the three schools in Chichicastenango.
Trivial (yet interesting) Things:
Heather Logan
Favorite place: My favorite place to be is someplace high. I love looking down on the world below me from a birds'-eye point-of- view and feeling the awe at how small we all really are.
Favorite hobby:
Reading...to my children and for my own enjoyment.
Favorite book: When I was younger, it was Little Women. Now, I'm not even sure. I just love reading stories about how other people interact with each other and what makes characters tick.
Favorite music genre: Should I really admit this? … Country.
Best thing about your spouse, family: I love that my family loves being together. It's amazing to me to watch how the kids completely admire their dad and how he gives them every bit of energy and enthusiasm he has. Aidan must be the happiest kid I've ever known. He wakes up singing in the morning, and spends most of the day just being happy. Ali has a gentle spirit that reminds me to slow down every once in awhile to enjoy the world around me. Our best moments are when we are just hanging out with no purpose in mind, but truly enjoying one another's presence.

Favorite place: Sharbot Lake, Ontario... on the lake in a bass boat, anytime during the day, but especially right before or after a thunderstorm, fishing lily-pads for a huge largemouth bass.
Favorite hobby : Hiking, reading, sports, cooking...so many to choose from.
Favorite book: When I was a child it was Shane, and then it was Lord of the Rings. Now I would have to say A Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, and Leaving Ruin.
Favorite music genre: Country Rock (think Lynyrd Skynyrd) and Classic Rock (think Steely Dan and Boston) and songwriter music (think early Billy Joel and Jackson Browne)
Best thing about your spouse, family: We love to spend time together. I love watching the kids, and when they are not playing with me, witnessing their good traits of kindness and joy for people. I appreciate that Heather is the glue for our family, and that without her our family would be adrift and in need of discipline and focused energy. We owe her everything and are so thankful for her. She had me at hello.
